Vernita Safety Rest Area

This project consisted of constructing a new Rest Area Building to replace the original 1960ís era Rest Area Building (1,110 square feet). Project duration was 8 months. The existing concrete, wood & CMU block building was demolished after the new structure was completed. The new building construction included reinforced concrete foundations, concrete slabs-on-grades, structural steel and wood glue lam structural framing, wood stud walls, exterior rock veneer, interior gypsum wallboard & MDF panel siding, paint, epoxy flooring and tongue & groove cedar ceilings. New mechanical and electrical systems were installed, along with an underslab floor heat system. Exterior work included constructing concrete sidewalks, exterior vending machine and sign kiosks, upgrading the existing irrigation sprinkler system, and asphalt overlayment of existing parking lot. Site utilities included an expansive upgrade of the site lighting and slightly modifying the site sewer routing.
